At the start of this year, I definitely didn't think I'd be here, reading twenty five books, reigniting my passion for reading and starting a blog! Over the last few years I lost my enthusiasm for reading, and felt like I didn't have the time to get back into it due to the nature and the hours of my hospitality job. So when 2020 rolled around I set myself a goal to read twelve books this year. A small target - one book per month - but I wanted to be realistic, and yesterday I finished my 25th!

None of us could have predicted the mayhem that Covid-19 would cause, and just like everyone else I want it to end as soon as possible. But I think it is important in any bad situation to take stock of the things you are grateful for, and weirdly the pandemic gave me the opportunity and the drive to absolutely smash my goal and start this project. To other book bloggers and bookstagrammers I am aware that my 25 books so far this year is actually probably quite a low number, but I am a newcomer to the community and if I'm being honest I'm pretty chuffed with myself! In 10 months I have read more than I have in probably any other year of my life - excluding university academic essays which lets face it are no-where near as fun - and I have been happier for it. I have jumped between genres and read books that are totally out of my comfort zone. I've read fiction, non-fiction and plays, and books that I meant to read during my teenage years but never got around to! Above all of that though, I am proud of myself for putting my mind to something and achieving it. I am excited about reading again and about this project and I can't wait to see where this goes.

Of course I couldn't possibly gloss over my favourites and notable mentions out of these 25 so far:

- Before the coffee gets cold - Toshikazu Kawaguchi

- An Inspector calls and other plays - J.B. Priestly

- The Nickel Boys - Colson Whitehead

- This is how you lose her - Juno Diaz

(I would like to acknowledge that I read the Harry Potter books earlier this year before J.K Rowling sparked outrage with her highly offensive comments against the trans community. I in no way support these comments, and have included these books in the above image for accuracy only.)
